Why you need to OC1 Time Trial... 2007/03/30 11:04
As you all have noticed, we are trying to be more structured with our training this season with the overall training plan and week to week training agendas. There is a progression from week to week with intensity and concepts. For this reason, it is important that you try to make all the practices. This season we are creating team packets for each team. The packets will include: 1. Goals and Objectives 2. Strength building workout plan from week to week 3. Assessments a. OC1 time trial b. Land exercises 4. Overall Water Practice Plan a. Customized specifically for each race 5. Paddler Progress report
Each packet will be customized for each team. Houston Heat will be composed of the following teams. 1. Recreational 2. Competitive 3. Competitive Advanced 4. Blind Fury 5. Cancer Survivors 6. Youth
During practices, the competitive boat WILL NOT focus on basic form or techniques. The workouts are intended for the experience paddlers who have already mastered the basics. If you find yourself struggling to keep form or not fit enough to keep up with the team, you should consider going to the beginner boat until you get up to that level. We will not cheat the experienced paddlers out of a good workout because we are going over concepts they already know. If you are going to the motion of a stroke but have no resistance on your paddle blade then you are not contributing.
Now, if you consider yourself competitive, there are no reasons why you should not do the OC1 time trial. You need to know where you stand in the club and the coaches need to know where you stand in the club. It is very hard for us to track your progress, if you don’t perform an OC1 time trial which defeats the purpose of having a progressive training program.
Registration is currently pretty low for the OC1 time trial. There will only be 1 or 2 make up days and it will be before a practice. That’s means make ups will be limited to 5 paddlers per session.
A great philosopher once said, “Don’t bitch, if you don’t vote” and another one said “Don’t bitch, if you don’t time trial”….. if you consider yourself competitive…
