Hello everyone! The Coaches have reviewed the votes from the Year End Social, and here is the list of out-of-town races for the 2008 Houston Heat dragon boat season:
April - Austin Dragon Boat Festival (TENTATIVE)
July 25 - 27: U.S Dragon Boat Nationals at Long Beach, CA
Late September - San Francisco Dragon Boat Festival , San Francisco, CA
The decision regarding events was based on many factors, including number of votes from members, quality of teams/competition at the event, etc. The Coaches made sure to have a 2-month gap between out-of-town events to allow enough time for training, and to avoid burnout. Dear Houston Heaters,
2008 looks to be an exciting new year for the dragon boat community. We have much to look forward to and want to see you all back in the boat for intense fun practice sessions to the race events.
We have scheduled this year's Kick-Off for Saturday, February 23rd. Click on the Practice Session link above "02/23 (Sat) - 2008 Houston Heat Kick Off Event!!" above to register NOW!!!!
We do want to remind you all that the membership fee for this year has increased to $125.00, valid through the end of the 2008 dragon boat season. There will also be a ONE-time administration fee of $20 for newbies (paddlers who have yet to join HH). These increases are due to several factors and will mainly be applied towards the gas fund to tow the boats to and from the water practices.
We are, however, promoting a 20% discount for early sign-up. The membership fee will only be $100.00 if we receive your membership payment and completed membership form before February 1, 2008. You can mail your check or money order to

For the newbies -- the one-time $20.00 administrative fee will be waived if your membership payment is provided at the time of registration on the kick-off day. (Payment must be made at the kick-off in order for the fee to be waived.) Take advantage of the early sign-up to get the 20% promotional discount off of the membership if you mail your check or money order to HH by February 1st.

- Vietopia is in the shopping strip at Buffalo Speedway and Westpark, just south of 59. It is in the same shopping strip as Buca de Pepo, Berry Hill, Pei Wei and Kroger, and it is right next door to Pacugio Gelato. mmmm
The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the format/structure of the club, criteria for being on one of the three "categories" of paddlers (recreational, competitive & premiere), and an introduction to the new D-stroke. Coach/Pres Minh will have a more detailed agenda soon.
