An extremely important safety drill has been scheduled for Saturday, April 7th, right after water practice. This is an extremely important drill, and the Coaches expect all active paddlers to participate. If you aren't going to be at the water practice that morning, please still make an effort to attend the safety drill.
The purpose of the safety drill is so that Houston Heat paddlers and Coaches are prepared in the event of an incident. Possible scenarios may include a boat swamping (water overfilling the boat), capsize, injured paddler, etc. Again, this is a very important drill so please make every effort to attend.

The OC1 time trial has been scheduled for April 8th starting at 8am. The time trial is part of the assessment process for both the Austin and May festivals.
While the time trial is not mandatory (at this point), it is strongly encouraged. Paddlers who choose not to participate in the time trial will be awarded a seat based on the Coaches complete discretion. The OC1 time trials are not only used to award seats on the boat for races, but also to track the paddler's progress through the season.

The Coaches have added a new type of practice to the Houston Heat training regimen. The OC1 time trial practices are an opportunity to become familiar with the OC1 in preparation for the time trials. The OC1 time trials are a part of the Coaches' selection processes for seats on the boat, especially when available seats are limited and for more competitive events.
The OC1 practices will follow each Saturday morning water practice.
Important Notes:
- You must be able to pull yourself back up above water on the OC1 in the event of a huli (flip). This can be challenging for some paddlers, depending on overall weight and/or strength.
- Registration for each OC1 practice is limited to 5 paddlers only. You must register in order to participate.
Send a message to the Coaches if you have any questions.

[From Coach Hau]
Eat your pasta, it's going to be an
endurance workout this weekend. This is our third practice. We need to
kick it up a notch. This is why it is important to show up to every
practice. Each week we will be building on what we did in the previous
practices. See the workout objective. MR = Minute Rest
